I was told that the extra bright flourescent lighting in takeaway eateries has a purpose - it is designed to make you want to eat and leave faster than you normally would - thus they get more customers through the door, than customers who get there, see a full (or nearly full) restaurant and decide not to partake.
Sneaky bastards.
It must have hurt, Mr D'arcy.
